Whenever someone asks me what I want to be when I get older and I finish college, I never hesitate to answer. I tell them that I want to be a writer (a novelist to be more specific). I want to make up my own worlds and create my own characters. I want to send a message out to people through a theme in something that I write. That’s my dream. Now, when people hear this, some people encourage me and say that they can’t wait to read a book that I write. But, other people tell me the downside of my dream.
They say that writers don’t make a lot of money (which I know). They tell me that it’s hard to get a book published (which I know). I have never strived for a goal as hard as I have strived to become a writer (I’m writing a book already. It’s a work in progress), so I don’t see why someone would try to bring me down about it and make me reevaluate my future. While I focus on the positives, they focus on the negatives. Bullies can be like this too. Instead of being friendly and giving you compliments, they choose to focus on any flaws that they can find about you. Why is this? Unfortunately, I don’t have all the answers.
There are people who say that bullies just do this for attention. Others say that they do this because they are or were bullied themselves, so they bully people so that they can feel better about themselves. These concepts may apply to whoever is bullying you, but the situation can be different with every bully. But, when you are ever in a situation when a bully is pointing out your flaws, ignore what they say and focus on your strengths. Admire your physical strengths, your emotional strengths, and your talents that nobody else has like you do.
Don’t let anyone tell you that your dreams are stupid and that you can’t achieve them. Turn the bully’s words around so that they acknowledge your strengths. Admire your qualities because you are the only you that there is, and nobody can copy you. While other boys and girls are trying to look and be like celebrities and people that they see on TV or in magazines, you can sit back and relax because you can be happy with yourself. You don’t need to be like anyone else. You can just be you! Follow your dreams and don’t let the bad things define your life; let your good qualities define it.
