Regardless of what anyone may say, everybody has witnessed abuse. It saddens me to know there isn't an end to all the kinds of abuse out there, but it's scary knowing that it happens EVERY single day. I have witnessed far too much of this
In Elementary I was the victim and no one came to help me. In Junior High I somehow became a top dog in the popularity food chain, even with this change I was verbally abused. In High School I became both an occasional victim and witness to it, I was bullied by people who thought they were better than me and induced fear into me and many others. My Junior year of High School arrived and for the first time I witnessed it instead of being the victim.
I'll admit that I was glad that wasn't me at first but witnessing it reminded me of when I was abused. I remembered how nobody cared enough to help me even afterwards I had enough. I immediately stepped forth! I walked over to him and reached my hand out to help him up. He cowered at first but seeing my smile he accepted my offer. I pulled his ear to my mouth and whispered "get going." Needless to say he got away and i took the beating instead. Later on the guy found me and asked ,"Why did you do that? You could have easily just watched or beaten me too so why?" "I have been through this before and seeing someone else get bullied just isn't right, nobody ever helped me in my time of need but I'm not like everyone else. If that is the price i have to pay to be different and help others in their time of need, then I'm willing to pay it." He smiled and said to me, "You really are different. You are willing to sacrifice your body to protect others. I was told heroes aren't real but you just proved that statement wrong."
From that day on I not only helped someone in need, but I made a friend who stuck by me through thick and thin. We watched each other's backs throughout the rest of High School and survived.
